Meet the Photographer
HEY! I'm Monika!
I'm a wedding, portraits, and events photographer based out of Lander, WY. I'm a science educator, a geologist, a fair-weather climber/runner, and an obsessive gardener. Photography has been a passion of mine the past decade, and I feel so fortunate to finally be in a space where I can once again open the doors back up to my photography business.
Where it all began...
In 2013, as a geology graduate student in California, I saved up to buy my first DSLR while running outdoor kitchens for geology field camps. I was motivated by a desire to have exceptional pictures in my Master's Thesis depicting rocks in my field area. At the time, I was completely unaware I would find a passion in the creativity of photography. During my free time and while teaching geology field trips, I always brought my camera along, getting tons of practice on different scenes and subjects. Cue circa 2013 Instagram shot practicing my skills while teaching out in the field -->
How I got here....
I moved to Durango, Colorado in 2014 and met my now husband, Nick, while spending our days rock-climbing at Indian Creek and around the Mountain West. We met and befriended many inspiring people along the way, who encouraged me to pick up my camera for more than a hobby. In 2017, I opened a wedding photography business in Durango while teaching geology at the local community college and ran it successfully for two years before entering the education field full-time to better support Nick in nursing school.
Where we're at now...
We moved to Lander in Winter 2022 in search of a tight-knit, outdoor-minded community, and absolutely love it here. I currently work in education, but am so excited to begin offering my photography services to our local community. If you live in the Lander area, you'll likely find me at LVHS, at Pushroot Brewery hanging out with friends, running the Tomato Loop, or deep in my flower garden or the Wind River Range come summer.
